If I were in their shoes...

People with different background (habit, major, home town, sex) can have trouble to
communicate with each other even if they speak same language. Most of us have no
problem to talk to friends with similar background. For people with unrelated (or
even conflicting) background, it will be an art to communicate with them.

For me, it's important to have friends from both categories to increase the
depth and width of my knowledge. Talking to people with similar background,
I increase the depth of my knowledge on the similar back ground. On the other hand,
I could know more totally new stuffs and ideas if I talk to somebody majoring in
literature and thus increase the width of my knowledge.
